Las Cruces Man, 33, Booked on Burglary, Felon-in-Possession and Warrant Counts

Allegedly... Derek Chavez, 33, of Las Cruces, was booked into Doña Ana County custody on Oct. 17, 2025, on a lengthy slate of charges that includes aggravated residential burglary, non-residential burglary, conspiracy to commit a second-degree felony, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of burglary tools and two counts of felony criminal damage to property over $1,000. The booking sheet also lists multiple felony and misdemeanor failure-to-appear warrants and one count of resisting or obstructing. The arrest location is recorded as Telshor and Lewis in Las Cruces, and bond is set at zero on every count. Chavez has surfaced in prior Las Cruces police reports tied to commercial break-ins. KFOX reported he was arrested in March 2024 after officers said he fled a burglary scene on Wyatt Drive and was found with a pry bar, bolt cutters, jewelry from a thrift store and about $1,121 in THC wax taken from an adjoining cannabis dispensary. A Doña Ana County booking log entry from January 2025 also listed him on breaking-and-entering and burglary-tool charges. The current October 2025 booking pulls together new allegations with outstanding failure-to-appear warrants from earlier cases.
