Las Cruces Man, 22, Sentenced in Federal Migrant Smuggling Conspiracy

Diego Rean Gamboa, a 22-year-old resident of Las Cruces, was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on Nov. 6, 2025. Records indicate he was held at the facility under booking number 2500009065 following an arrest at 200 E. Griggs. The booking was related to a federal felony charge categorized as all other offenses. According to Department of Justice records and news reports, Gamboa was one of seven individuals indicted for involvement in a regional migrant smuggling organization. Court documents show he pleaded guilty to charges related to the smuggling conspiracy and money laundering. The investigation focused on a network operating across the Borderland to transport and harbor undocumented individuals.
