Deming Man, 36, Convicted of Federal Child Exploitation Charges

Jesus Gilbert Lopez, 36, of Deming, New Mexico, was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on Dec. 26, 2024. Records indicate he was processed under booking number 2400009968 on a felony hold for federal court following an arrest in Luna County. He was held without bond at the facility. According to federal court and news records, Lopez was a Deming police officer who pleaded guilty to federal charges involving the sexual exploitation of a minor and receiving child pornography. Investigators discovered he had recorded sexual acts with a teenage girl and possessed illicit materials. The case also resulted in a civil rights lawsuit naming Lopez and the City of Deming as defendants regarding the abuse. Court and news records indicate Lopez was convicted in this case following his guilty plea in federal court in Las Cruces.
