Las Cruces Man, 22, Booked on Federal Felony Charge in School Zone Shooting

Allegedly... Luis Angel Ruiz, 22, of Las Cruces, was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on Jan. 21, 2026. According to booking number 2600000507, Ruiz was arrested at 5945 Moonview Drive on a felony warrant for all other offenses. He is currently being held without a bond amount listed in the public record. According to Department of Justice records, Ruiz was identified as the shooter in a September 2025 incident that occurred within a school zone in Las Cruces. Federal investigators named him as the third defendant in the ongoing case. The arrest followed a multi-agency investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.
