Las Cruces Man, 42, Booked on First-Degree Murder and Firearm Charges

Allegedly... Saul Camarena, a 42-year-old resident of Las Cruces, was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on Feb. 28, 2025. He faces charges of first-degree murder and the receipt or possession of a firearm by a felon. Records indicate Camarena is being held without bond following his arrest at a residence on Melody Lane. According to news reports, the arrest stems from a fatal shooting that occurred near New Mexico State University. Las Cruces police located Camarena at a home on the east Mesa and took him into custody in connection with the incident. The investigation involves allegations of an open count of murder and the illegal possession of a weapon by a person with a prior felony record.
